Letters from Afghanistan

From 1360 to 1370 there were not school buildings in Worsaj, apart from one school building which was very old and not suitable to use. Students used to study in open air, sometimes they were using tents as their classrooms. They didn’t have any pens, books, notebooks and teachers as well.
The teachers and head teachers in Worsaj were not helped by the government at all, so therefore they sometimes used to go to Pakistan from Badakhshan in order to buy books and prepare their teaching materials.  Students used to set on the floor with no shoes and no desk or chairs. Teachers did not get paid so it was very hard to get education.
In 1370 things started to change slowly and there was a school build by the Swedish Committee, and they also provided books, notebooks and other stationary for school pupils, it was a great a great help and the teachers were also paid small amount but it was better then nothing.
It was then when people helped giving spaces for girls schools and slowly girls also started going to schools. Now it is better then how it was in the past, as we do  have some classrooms and girls also attend school to get education.
We hope that our schools receive more help and we also receive more teaching and studying materials. We also hope to teach more and more kids so that they can help to rebuilt the country for a better future. We do not want more illiterate people in Afghanistan, and by educating people we hope to bring peace.

Problems of students during the revolution
During the revolution time, students lived in a dark and ignorant era. They didn’t have chairs, desks or classrooms and other important teaching materials such as books and notebooks. They used to set on stones and write on stones, or they didn’t even have tents so that they could use as their classrooms; their classrooms used to be in the cave of mountains and one teacher used to teach them every subject.
But thank God, after 1382 these problems were solved. They started having school buildings and classrooms, and all this became possible with the help of international community and in particular the Swedish Committee for Afghanistan. We really thank them from our hearts and hope that we will get more help in terms of classrooms, school building and if we can get computers and laboratory that will be even more better. We want best schools for our students.
Us Afghans have been in war for very long time, we thank The Swedish Committee for their help and hope that they will continue their help. We want these schools to be active so that our girls and boys who are growing up in the war would get their education and our country will be peaceful one day.
During the revolution many girls were not allowed to go to school, because their parents would not want them to go to the mountains and study, and that is the main reasons many of our sister ( women) are illiterate today.
